Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal works like a sponge in your gut. Its porous, charcoal-like surface can grab onto things you swallow, including medicine. If you take prucalopride (Motegrity, Resolor, Resotran) too close to a dose of coffee charcoal, the charcoal may soak up some of the drug before your body absorbs it, so less of it gets into your system.

For prucalopride, that mostly means it may not work as well, and your constipation could stick around. The good news is this concern is theoretical, based on how charcoal behaves rather than firm studies. A practical fix is spacing them out, but don't change anything on your own. Check with your pharmacist or doctor about the right timing.

What Is Prucalopride Used For?

Brand names: Resotran, Resolor, Motegrity

Prucalopride tablets — sold under the brand name Motegrity and also available as generic prucalopride and prucalopride succinate — are indicated for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults. CIC is ongoing constipation with no identified underlying cause.

This indication applies to all approved oral tablet forms of prucalopride. It is not approved for use in children; a study in pediatric patients was stopped early because the medication did not show effectiveness in that age group.
