ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine
Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Coffee Charcoal interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a bit like other charcoals in your gut. Its porous surface can grab onto medicine sitting in your stomach and intestines before your body has a chance to absorb it. With Actifed (pseudoephedrine and triprolidine), that could mean less of each ingredient actually gets into your bloodstream, so you may notice the cold and allergy relief just doesn't work as well, your nose stays stuffy, and the antihistamine feels weaker.
This concern is based on how charcoal behaves rather than firm studies on this exact combo, so it's more theoretical than proven. The easy fix most pharmacists suggest is spacing them out by at least two hours. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine page
“Ephedra is the interaction I would rule out first for anyone taking pseudoephedrine with triprolidine (Actifed, Triposed). Stacking a second stimulant on a decongestant that already raises blood pressure and heart rate invites real cardiovascular trouble, and that logic runs through most of this list, which deserves genuine care rather…”

About Coffee Charcoal
What is Coffee Charcoal?
- Diarrhea
- Inflammatory bowel conditions
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Mild digestive upset
- Wound and skin care (topical, traditional)
Coffee charcoal is made by roasting green coffee beans until they turn black, creating a charcoal-like material used traditionally for diarrhea and digestive complaints.
