Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts like a sponge in your gut. Because it has that porous, charcoal-like surface, it can grab onto things you swallow, including your Kisqali (ribociclib) pill. If they're sitting in your stomach at the same time, the charcoal may soak up some of the medicine before your body can absorb it, meaning you could get less than your full dose.

With a breast cancer treatment like this, you really want every bit working as intended, so this is worth taking seriously. This concern is based on how charcoal behaves in general rather than a specific study with ribociclib, but the safe move is simple: separate them by at least two hours. Please run it by your oncology team or pharmacist before combining the two.

What Is Ribociclib Used For?

Brand name: Kisqali

Kisqali is used to treat adults with hormone receptor (HR)-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. For early breast cancer (stage II or III, at high risk of recurrence), Kisqali is used together with an aromatase inhibitor as adjuvant treatment — meaning it's given after initial treatment to help reduce the chance the cancer comes back.

For advanced or metastatic breast cancer (cancer that has spread), Kisqali is used in combination with either an aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant — either as the first hormone-based treatment or after the cancer has progressed on another hormone therapy.
