Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a bit like a sponge in your stomach and gut. Because it has that porous, charcoal-like surface, it can grab onto things you swallow, including your Tazverik (tazemetostat) tablets, before your body has a chance to fully absorb them. If less of the drug gets into your bloodstream, you may get less of the cancer-fighting benefit you're counting on, which really matters with a treatment like this.

The good news is this concern is theoretical, based on how charcoal behaves rather than studies in people taking these two together. A practical fix is timing: keeping them at least two hours apart lowers the chance of any binding. Please run this by your oncology team or pharmacist before adding coffee charcoal, so nothing affects your dosing.

What Is Tazemetostat Used For?

Brand name: Tazverik

Tazverik (tazemetostat) tablets are used to treat adults and patients aged 16 and older with metastatic or locally advanced epithelioid sarcoma (a rare soft-tissue cancer) that cannot be completely removed by surgery.

Tazverik is also used in adults with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma — meaning the lymphoma has come back or stopped responding to treatment — either when the tumor carries a specific EZH2 gene mutation (confirmed by an FDA-approved test) after at least two prior treatments, or when there are no other satisfactory treatment options. Both uses were approved based on response rates, and continued approval may depend on results from ongoing confirmatory studies.
