Bazedoxifene Acetate, Conjugated Estrogens falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Coleus interacts with.

Theoretically, taking coleus might decrease serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that coleus can activate the nuclear receptor, pregnane X receptor (PXR), which results in increased expression of CYP3A4. Although the clinical significance of this is not known, use caution when considering concomitant use of coleus and other drugs affected by these enzymes.

Here's the gist with Duavee (conjugated estrogens plus bazedoxifene): both the estrogen and the bazedoxifene parts are partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest Coleus may rev up that enzyme, which could speed up how fast your body breaks these hormones down. In plain terms, your medication might not work quite as well, so you could notice your hot flashes creeping back or get less bone protection over time.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's only based on test-tube and animal research, so we don't really know if it matters in real people. Still, if you're thinking about a concentrated Coleus (forskolin) supplement, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first rather than guessing.

What Is Estrogen and Bazedoxifene Used For?

  • Estrogen and bazedoxifene tablets are used to treat hot flashes (sudden feelings of warmth, especially in the face, neck, and chest) in women who are experiencing menopause (stage of life when menstrual periods become less frequent and stop and women may experience other symptoms and body changes). Estrogen and bazedoxifene tablets are also used to prevent osteoporosis (condition in which the bones become thin and weak and break easily) in women who have undergone menopause. Estrogen is in a class of medications called hormones and bazedoxifene is in a class of medications called estrogen agonist–antagonists. Estrogen works by replacing estrogen that is normally produced by the body. Bazedoxifene is used to block the action of estrogen on the lining of the uterus, decreasing the risk of overgrowth that may lead to cancer.
