Metformin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Cumin interacts with.

Theoretically, cumin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that cumin can lower blood sugar in diabetic animals. However, research in humans with and without diabetes has found conflicting results.

Here's the simple version: cumin may have a mild blood sugar lowering effect of its own. Since metformin is already working to bring your glucose down, stacking the two together could, in theory, push your sugar a little lower than expected. If it dropped too far, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, or unusually hungry or tired.

Now, the honest part. This concern comes mostly from animal studies, and human results have been all over the map. The amount of cumin you sprinkle on food is very unlikely to cause any trouble. Concentrated cumin capsules or oil are where I'd be a bit more cautious. If you take those, keep an eye on your readings and check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

Metformin is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is always used together with diet and exercise, not instead of them.

Metformin hydrochloride tablets and oral solution are approved for adults and children 10 years and older. Metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets — including brands such as Fortamet, Glumetza, and Metformin Hydrochloride Extended Release — are approved for adults only.
