Metformin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group African Wild Potato interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that African wild potato lowers blood glucose levels. So far, this effect has not been shown in humans. Theoretically, concomitant use of African wild potato and antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Dose adjustments might be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the gist: in animal studies, African wild potato seemed to nudge blood sugar a little lower on its own. Since metformin is already working to bring your glucose down, stacking the two together could, in theory, push your sugar lower than intended. That might show up as the usual low blood sugar signs, things like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling foggy.

I want to be honest with you, though: this is based only on lab and animal work, not on people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Metformin by itself rarely causes lows. If you'd like to try the supplement, loop in your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your home glucose readings so any change gets caught early.
