Dash Diet + Pramlintide
Pramlintide brand name: Symlin.
We found no known interaction between Dash Diet and Pramlintide in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Dash Diet and Pramlintide
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Pramlintide and Dash Diet in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Dash Diet alongside specific medications may be limited.
Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Dash Diet at all — not against Pramlintide, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.
Dash Diet is an eating pattern rather than something you take. Ask your pharmacist or doctor before changing how you eat while on a prescribed medicine: some medicines are dosed around meals, and a change in diet can change how they work. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.
Dash Diet safety at a glance
Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Dash Diet in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
When used appropriately, short-term. DASH diets have been used with apparent safety during pregnancy for 4-12 weeks. A modified DASH diet called MAMA-DASH, with adequate nutrition and calories for pregnancy, has been used for 20 weeks without reports of adverse events.
When used appropriately while breastfeeding for up to 6 months. The DASH diet is a balanced diet that is not expected to be harmful during breastfeeding. Observational research in exclusively breastfed infants has found that high adherence to the DASH diet for 4-6 months while breastfeeding is not associated with changes in infant weight, height, or head circumference when compared with low adherence to the DASH diet.

What Pramlintide Is Prescribed For, and What Dash Diet Has Been Studied For
These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Pramlintide is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Dash Diet is an eating pattern: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.
Pramlintide is prescribed for: SymlinPen (pramlintide) is used as an add-on treatment for adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who already use mealtime insulin but still haven't reached their target blood sugar levels — even with optimal insulin therapy. It is not a replacement for insulin. It works alongside insulin, given right before major meals, to reduce the spike in blood sugar that happens after eating.
Dash Diet has been studied for:
-
Diabetes Natural Medicines rates the evidence for Dash Diet: Possibly Effective Read what the research shows
Dash Diet for diabetes
Following the DASH diet may be beneficial for the management of diabetes. The DASH diet may also be beneficial for reducing the risk of gestational and type 2 diabetes.
-
Stroke studied, not established Dash Diet has been studied for this. Natural Medicines rates the evidence: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate Read what the research shows
Dash Diet for stroke
Observational research has found that following the DASH diet is associated with a modestly reduced risk of stroke.
Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Pramlintide on your own; if you are taking Dash Diet for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.
See Every Supplement That Interacts With Pramlintide
This page covers Dash Diet only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Pramlintide page lists 239 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Siberian Cocklebur (major), Acai (moderate), African Wild Potato (moderate), Agaricus Mushroom (moderate) and Agmatine (moderate).
By severity: 1 major · 208 moderate · 30 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pramlintide page
“The single entry rated major on the pramlintide (Symlin) list is Siberian cocklebur, which has caused severe hypoglycemia in humans, not just in lab studies. That matters more than usual here because pramlintide is injected at mealtimes alongside insulin, and a dangerous low is already the main hazard of that pairing.”

Where Dash Diet and Pramlintide Sit Against Everything Else
Out of every supplement and medication people look up on HelloPharmacist, here is where these two land this week — and which way each has been moving.
#1,122 of 1,452 supplements looked up here in the last 7 days
#2,193 of 2,830 medications looked up here in the last 7 days
Position among everything looked up on this site, not a measure of how commonly either one is used or how important it is. A supplement can climb this list because of a news story. It counts every request to the page, automated ones included, and nothing here identifies anyone.
Where does our data come from?
- Source: the Natural Medicines (TRC Healthcare) clinical database — the evidence-graded professional reference for herb & supplement interactions.
- Citation library: 103,510 references behind our interaction content, 65,311 of them resolved to verified PubMed/DOI sources. See every Dash Diet reference on this page ↓
- Freshness: we automatically re-check this combination every week — this pair was last verified September 20, 2026. The Dash Diet and Pramlintide records this page draws on were last updated July 11, 2026.
- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Dash Diet
What is Dash Diet?
- High blood pressure
- Heart health
- Lowering cholesterol
- Weight management
- Healthy eating pattern
The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet is an eating plan rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy, with less salt, red meat, and added sugar. It is one of the best-studied diets for lowering blood pressure and is widely recommended by doctors and dietitians. It is a food-based lifestyle plan, not a pill or supplement.
Eating pattern (whole-food diet plan)
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Dash Diet is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Dash Diet record says about it on its own.
Dash Diet: dosing
There is no pill or standardized "dose" for DASH, since it is an eating pattern rather than a supplement. Instead, the plan suggests target servings each day from food groups like vegetables, fruits, grains, dairy, lean protein, and a limited amount of fats and sweets.Sodium goals are usually set at a moderate level, and there is a lower-sodium version that may lower blood pressure even more. The exact amounts depend on your calorie needs, age, and health goals.A registered dietitian or your pharmacist can help you tailor the plan to your needs. Free DASH guides are also available from the NIH and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

Pramlintide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Pramlintide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Dash Diet — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
