Here's the simple version. Eszopiclone (Lunesta) already works by quieting down your brain so you can fall asleep. Elecampane, the cough and digestion herb, may have its own mild calming effect. Put the two together and those effects could stack up, leaving you more drowsy, dizzy, foggy in the morning, or unsteady on your feet than you'd expect from the medicine alone.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one: it's theoretical, based on how the herb might behave rather than real cases in people. So it's not a reason to panic, just something to be aware of. Don't change your Lunesta on your own. A quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding elecampane is the smart move, especially since this is a folk remedy with limited proof.

Eszopiclone tablets — sold under the brand name Lunesta and as generics — are indicated for the treatment of insomnia. In clinical studies, eszopiclone helped people fall asleep more quickly (reduced sleep latency) and stay asleep through the night (improved sleep maintenance).

Clinical trials supporting its effectiveness lasted up to 6 months in adults and up to 2 weeks in elderly patients. Lunesta and eszopiclone generics are approved for this same indication across the available tablet formulations.
