Here's the gist if you use Levemir (insulin detemir) and you're thinking about eucalyptus. Some animal studies hint that eucalyptus leaf may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own. Stacked on top of your insulin, that could in theory push your sugar a little lower than expected, which is what we call hypoglycemia. Watch for the usual warning signs: shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, sudden hunger, dizziness, or feeling foggy.

I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical and based only on lab and animal research, not real-world human cases. Breathing in eucalyptus from a vapor rub or lozenge is very unlikely to move your numbers. Concentrated oral products are a different story, and the oil is toxic if swallowed. Keep checking your glucose as usual, and run any new supplement by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Levemir (insulin detemir) is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. It is a basal insulin, meaning it works around the clock to keep background blood sugar levels steady.

Levemir is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous buildup of acids in the blood that requires a different type of insulin).
