Why this applies to Ropivacaine

Ropivacaine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Eucalyptus interacts with.

Theoretically, eucalyptus might increase the levels of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that eucalyptus oil might inhibit CYP1A2, although this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the quick picture with ropivacaine (Naropin). This is a local anesthetic that doctors inject to numb an area, and your liver clears it largely through an enzyme called CYP1A2. Some lab studies hint that eucalyptol, the active part of eucalyptus oil, might slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, ropivacaine could hang around longer and build up, which in theory could mean more numbness or, in larger amounts, side effects like dizziness, ringing in the ears, or a racing heart.

The honest truth, though, is that this is theoretical. It has only been seen in test-tube and animal research, never confirmed in people, and ropivacaine is given as a controlled dose by your medical team. Inhaling eucalyptus for a stuffy nose is very unlikely to matter. Just mention any supplements to your doctor or pharmacist before a procedure so they can decide.
