Reserpine, a constituent of fever bark, has been shown to increase the risk of cardiovascular instability in patients receiving general anesthesia. It is not known if this could occur with fever bark.

Here's the concern with combining fever bark and ropivacaine (Naropin). Ropivacaine is a local anesthetic, often used during surgery or for nerve blocks and epidurals. Fever bark contains reserpine-like compounds, and reserpine has a reputation for making blood pressure and heart rate harder to control once a person is under anesthesia. That can mean unexpected drops in blood pressure or an unstable heartbeat during a procedure.

I want to be honest about how solid this is: it's mostly theoretical, based on what reserpine does, not on direct studies of fever bark with ropivacaine. Still, because the stakes during surgery are high, this is worth flagging. If you take fever bark, tell your surgeon, anesthesiologist, or pharmacist well before any procedure so they can plan safely.

Fever bark is the bark of the Australian tree Alstonia constricta, used in traditional medicine for fever, diarrhea, and infections. There is very little reliable human research to support these uses, and the bark contains potent alkaloids that may cause serious side effects. It is best avoided unless used under direct medical supervision.
