Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
MONOAMINE OXIDASE INHIBITORS (MAOIs)
Why this applies to Phenelzine Sulfate
Phenelzine Sulfate falls under MONOAMINE OXIDASE INHIBITORS (MAOIs) — the group Fever Bark interacts with.
Yohimbine, a constituent of fever bark, has MAO inhibitory effects. At high doses, yohimbine is a non-selective inhibitor of MAO. It is not known if this would occur with fever bark.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here's the concern with pairing Nardil (phenelzine) and fever bark. Phenelzine is already a strong MAO inhibitor, meaning it slows the enzyme that breaks down certain brain chemicals and the amino acid tyramine. Fever bark contains alkaloids like yohimbine and reserpine-like compounds that can also nudge blood pressure and the nervous system, and at high doses yohimbine may add its own MAO-blocking effect on top of your medication.
Stacking these could push things too far, with a risk of dangerous spikes in blood pressure, racing heart, headache, sweating, or agitation. To be fair, this is a theoretical warning based on the chemistry, not solid human studies. Still, with a drug as sensitive to interactions as phenelzine, I'd play it safe. Please check with your pharmacist or prescriber before using fever bark.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Phenelzine Sulfate page
“Few medications demand as much dietary and supplement care as phenelzine sulfate (Nardil), an older MAOI antidepressant, and this list backs that up, with 18 of its 144 recorded interactions rated major. The two dominant themes are sedation and blood pressure.”

About Fever Bark
What is Fever Bark?
- Fever
- Diarrhea
- Malaria (traditional)
- Digestive complaints
- Bitter tonic
Fever bark is the bark of the Australian tree Alstonia constricta, used in traditional medicine for fever, diarrhea, and infections. There is very little reliable human research to support these uses, and the bark contains potent alkaloids that may cause serious side effects. It is best avoided unless used under direct medical supervision.
About Phenelzine
What Is Phenelzine Used For?
Brand name: Nardil
Phenelzine treats depression in people described as “atypical,” “nonendogenous,” or “neurotic.” These patients often have a mix of anxiety and depression, along with phobic or hypochondriacal features (intense fears or excessive worry about health).
It is rarely the first antidepressant tried. It is more suitable for people who did not respond to the drugs more commonly used. Evidence is less conclusive for severe depression with endogenous features. These uses apply to Phenelzine Sulfate tablets and Nardil tablets.

Phenelzine Sulfate Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Phenelzine Sulfate as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Fever Bark — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
