Modafinil falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Fever Bark interacts with.

Theoretically, fever bark might increase or decrease the effects of stimulant drugs.
Reserpine, a constituent of fever bark, might increase or decrease effects of sympathomimetics. Also, yohimbine, another constituent of fever bark, has sympathomimetic effects and increases blood pressure in a dose-dependent manner. It is not known if this would occur with fever bark.

Here's the thing with pairing fever bark and modafinil: both can stir up the part of your nervous system that revs you up. Modafinil already promotes wakefulness and can nudge up your heart rate and blood pressure a bit. Fever bark carries plant alkaloids like a yohimbine-type compound that may also raise blood pressure, plus reserpine-like compounds that can push things the other way. So the combo could either add up (more jitteriness, racing heart, higher blood pressure, trouble sleeping) or work against each other.

Honestly, this is mostly theoretical and based on weak, anecdotal evidence, so I won't overstate it. Still, since fever bark is potent and poorly studied, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two rather than guessing.

Fever bark is the bark of the Australian tree Alstonia constricta, used in traditional medicine for fever, diarrhea, and infections. There is very little reliable human research to support these uses, and the bark contains potent alkaloids that may cause serious side effects. It is best avoided unless used under direct medical supervision.

What Is Modafinil Used For?

Brand names: Provigil, Sparlon, Alertec

Modafinil (also sold as Provigil) is used to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive sleepiness due to narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), or shift work disorder (SWD).

In OSA, modafinil treats the sleepiness — not the underlying airway obstruction itself. It is used alongside standard treatments such as CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep), not as a replacement for them. If CPAP is appropriate for you, your doctor will want you to use it consistently even while taking modafinil.
