Here's the simple version. The codeine part of your Aspirin with Codeine already makes a lot of people feel drowsy, foggy, or relaxed. European barberry contains berberine, and in animal studies berberine seemed to have a mild sedating effect of its own. So the worry is that putting the two together could pile on top of each other and leave you more sleepy or slowed down than you expect.

I'll be honest with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on lab and animal work, not proven cases in people. Still, since codeine can already affect your breathing and alertness, it's worth playing it safe. If you notice extra grogginess, don't drive, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this combo. Your medicine pairs aspirin, which already thins the blood a bit by quieting platelets, with codeine for pain. European barberry contains berberine, and in lab dishes and animal studies that compound seems to make platelets less sticky too. So in theory, stacking the two could nudge your bleeding risk a little higher.

In real life this might show up as easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or a cut that's slow to stop. I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern based on how berberine behaves, not strong human proof. The codeine side isn't really involved here. Before adding barberry, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
