Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Enoxaparin
Enoxaparin falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group European Barberry interacts with.
In vitro and animal evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of European barberry, might inhibit platelet aggregation. Theoretically, European barberry might have a similar effect.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Enoxaparin (Lovenox) is already a strong blood thinner that you inject to stop clots from forming. European barberry contains berberine, and in lab dishes and animal studies that compound seemed to make platelets a little less sticky. If that effect carries over in people, stacking it on top of enoxaparin could in theory nudge your bleeding risk a bit higher.
I want to be honest about how shaky this is. It is a theoretical concern from test-tube and animal data, not from solid human studies. Still, with a clot-prevention shot, I'd rather you play it safe. Watch for things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, pink or dark urine, or any bleeding that won't stop, and please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding barberry.

About European Barberry
What is European Barberry?
- Digestive upset
- Antimicrobial support
- Blood sugar support
- Cholesterol and metabolic support
- Skin conditions
European barberry is a shrub whose root, bark, and berries contain berberine, a bitter plant alkaloid that has been studied mostly in isolated form. Some early research on berberine is promising for blood sugar and cholesterol, but high-quality evidence for the whole barberry herb is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
About Enoxaparin Injection
What Is Enoxaparin Injection Used For?
Brand name: Lovenox
Enoxaparin Injection is used to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot in a deep vein that can travel to the lungs (pulmonary embolism). This includes people having abdominal surgery, hip replacement surgery or knee replacement surgery. It also includes medical patients with severely restricted mobility during acute illness.
It also treats acute DVT, with or without pulmonary embolism, along with warfarin. In heart care, it is used with aspirin to prevent ischemic complications of unstable angina and non-Q-wave heart attack. It also treats acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), a serious type of heart attack.
