Fexofenadine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group False Unicorn interacts with.

In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. Drugs that might be affected include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.

Here's the honest scoop on pairing False Unicorn with Allegra (fexofenadine). The concern on file is that a lab study showed False Unicorn can block an enzyme called CYP3A4. In theory, slowing that enzyme could let a little more fexofenadine linger in your system. Since Allegra is already a fairly gentle, non-drowsy antihistamine, even if levels nudged up a bit, you'd most likely just notice slightly more of its usual effects, like mild headache or, rarely, a touch of drowsiness.

I want to stress how weak this evidence is. It comes from a test tube, not from real people, and fexofenadine actually depends more on transporters than on heavy CYP3A4 processing. So this is mostly theoretical. Still, before combining them, run it past your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Fexofenadine Used For?

Brand name: Allegra

Fexofenadine temporarily relieves symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) and other upper respiratory allergies, including runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.

Several products — including Allegra Hives 24hr tablets — are specifically used to reduce hives (urticaria) and relieve the itching that comes with them. Keep in mind that fexofenadine will not prevent hives or stop an allergic skin reaction from happening in the first place.
