Theoretically, fennel might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.

In vitro research suggests that fennel inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity. This effect has not been reported in humans.

This combination pill contains two active medicines: conjugated estrogens (hormone therapy) and meprobamate (a calming, anti-anxiety ingredient). Both can be processed in part by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that fennel may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, these medicines could clear a bit slower and build up, which might mean more estrogen-type effects (breast tenderness, nausea, bloating) or more meprobamate effects (drowsiness, dizziness, feeling foggy).

Here's the reassuring part: this is only seen in test-tube research, never confirmed in humans, so it's largely theoretical. Everyday fennel in cooking is very unlikely to matter. If you're using concentrated fennel supplements or the essential oil, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Here's the gist with this combo. Your medicine pairs conjugated estrogens (a hormone replacement) with meprobamate (a calming agent for tension). The concern is only with the estrogen part. Fennel contains plant compounds that act a little like estrogen, so in large, concentrated supplement doses they could compete at the same estrogen receptors your medicine is meant to act on. In theory that might nudge how well your hormone therapy works.

I want to be honest: this is theoretical, based on lab pharmacology, not on real patient cases. Using fennel as a food or spice is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated fennel capsules or essential oil are a different story, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding them.
