Ibuprofen lysine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Fo-ti interacts with.

Theoretically, fo-ti may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that fo-ti may inhibit CYP2C9. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to break down ibuprofen. Lab and animal studies hint that Fo-ti might slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, ibuprofen could clear a bit more slowly and hang around longer, which can nudge up the usual NSAID side effects like stomach upset, heartburn, fluid retention, higher blood pressure, or, with heavier use, kidney strain.

The important part is that this is theoretical. It hasn't actually been seen in humans, only in test tubes and animals, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since processed Fo-ti has its own liver-safety concerns, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two.

Ibuprofen lysine also falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS.

Fo-ti has been linked to cases of acute liver failure which can decrease clotting factor production and increase the effects of anticoagulants. In one case, a patient who had been stable on warfarin presented with acute hepatitis and an INR elevated to 14.98. The patient had been taking fo-ti for 90 days prior to admission. Discontinuation of warfarin and fo-ti lead to a decrease in the INR and full recovery. Theoretically, concomitant use of fo-ti with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs may increase the risk of bleeding in some patients. Until more is known, monitor patients taking fo-ti and drugs that affect bleeding.
Some of these drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), dipyridamole (Persantine), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with ibuprofen lysine and Fo-ti. Ibuprofen is an NSAID, and on its own it can already irritate the stomach and make bleeding a little easier by affecting how platelets stick together. The concern with Fo-ti is mostly about the liver. There have been rare reports of Fo-ti causing liver injury, and when the liver gets hurt, it makes fewer of the proteins your body needs to clot blood. Put those two together and you could, in theory, tip the scales toward easier bruising or bleeding.

To be honest, this is based on scattered case reports, not strong studies, so it's more of a 'watch and be aware' situation than a hard rule. Still, if you take Fo-ti regularly, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor, and watch for unusual bruising, dark stools, or stomach pain.

About Ibuprofen

What Is Ibuprofen Used For?

Brand name: NeoProfen

Oral ibuprofen products (tablets, coated tablets, and liquid-filled capsules) are used to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains from headache, backache, toothache, muscular aches, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever. The oral prescription tablet (Ibu) is also indicated for the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, mild to moderate pain, and primary dysmenorrhea (painful periods).

Caldolor, an intravenous (IV) form, is approved for adults and children 3 months and older to manage mild to moderate pain, to manage moderate to severe pain alongside opioid pain medicines, and to reduce fever. A separate intravenous solution, Ibuprofen Lysine, is used specifically in premature infants to close a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) — an abnormal blood vessel connection near the heart — when standard medical management has not worked.
