Animal and in vitro research suggests that fo-ti may inhibit CYP2C19. An in vitro study suggests that the degree of CYP2C19 inhibition may depend on the type of fo-ti extract (i.e., the raw plant leads to greater inhibition than extensively processed extracts). However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Fo-ti and your imipramine. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C19 (along with others) to help break down imipramine. Lab and animal studies hint that Fo-ti may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, imipramine could build up a bit more than usual, which might mean stronger side effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness when standing, or a faster heartbeat.
The honest part: this is theoretical, based only on lab and animal work, and it hasn't actually been seen in humans. Raw Fo-ti seems to block the enzyme more than processed extracts. I wouldn't panic, but since Fo-ti also carries its own liver concerns, please run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

In vitro research suggests that fo-ti might inhibit CYP1A2. Additionally, in vitro research suggests that the degree of CYP1A2 inhibition depends on the type of fo-ti extract (i.e., the raw plant leads to greater inhibition than extensively processed extracts). However, in an animal study, an aqueous extract of fo-ti inhibited CYP1A2 while an alcoholic extract of fo-ti induced CYP1A2. Induction or inhibition of CYP1A2 by fo-ti has not been reported in humans.

Confusingly, one animal study showed an alcohol-based extract speeding the enzyme up instead, which could weaken the drug.

What Is Imipramine Used For?
Brand names: Tofranil, Tofranil PM
Imipramine is used to relieve symptoms of depression. Both Imipramine Hydrochloride tablets and Imipramine Pamoate capsules are approved for this use. Endogenous depression — the kind that seems to arise from within rather than a clear outside cause — tends to respond especially well. It may take one to three weeks before you notice the full benefit.
Imipramine Hydrochloride tablets are also approved as a short-term, add-on treatment to help reduce nighttime bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) in children aged 6 and older, after a doctor has ruled out physical causes.
