Folic acid might have antagonistic effects on phenobarbital and increase the risk for seizures.
Folic acid can have direct convulsant activity in some people, reversing the effects of phenobarbital and worsening seizure control. Monitor closely for increased seizure activity.

This combination product contains phenobarbital, which is the part that matters here. Phenobarbital is a barbiturate that calms overactive electrical activity in the brain, and it's sometimes used to help control seizures. The concern with folic acid is that, in higher supplement doses, it may work against phenobarbital and make seizures harder to control. Some people may even be a little more prone to seizure activity when extra folate is added.

This doesn't mean you can never take folic acid, especially in normal food amounts, but it's worth a conversation. If you're on this medication for seizures, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting a folic acid supplement so they can watch your seizure control closely.
