Amitriptyline, Perphenazine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Fucus Vesiculosus interacts with.
In vitro research shows that fucoidan, a constituent of Fucus vesiculosus, both inhibits and induces CYP2D6. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combo pill pairs amitriptyline (an older antidepressant) with perphenazine (an antipsychotic), and both rely partly on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to be cleared from your body. Bladderwrack contains a compound (fucoidan) that, in test-tube studies only, has shown it can either slow down or speed up that same enzyme. The honest takeaway is that we really don't know which direction it would push things in a real person.
If the enzyme were slowed, levels could creep up, meaning more drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, or a faster heartbeat. If sped up, the medicine might work less well. This is theoretical and has never been seen in actual patients, so I wouldn't panic, but please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, especially since bladderwrack's iodine can affect your thyroid too.

Here's the gist with this combo pill (amitriptyline plus perphenazine) and bladderwrack. In a lab dish, a seaweed compound called fucoidan slowed down the CYP2C9 enzyme, one of the liver pathways that helps clear these medicines. If that happened in your body, the drug levels could creep up a bit, which might mean more of the usual side effects: drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, dizziness on standing, or a faster heartbeat.
The honest part is that this is purely theoretical, based on test-tube work, and has never been seen in real people. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, because bladderwrack is also loaded with iodine, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before starting it.

In vitro research shows that fucoidan, a constituent of Fucus vesiculosus, inhibits CYP3A4. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with this combination pill (amitriptyline plus perphenazine). One lab finding suggests that a compound in bladderwrack, called fucoidan, may slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Your body uses that enzyme to help clear both ingredients in this medicine. In theory, if it works more slowly, these drugs could linger and build up a bit, which might mean stronger side effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness on standing, or a faster heartbeat.
That said, I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube research and hasn't been seen in real people, so the risk is mostly theoretical and rated minor.
