Glucosamine + Lixisenatide
Lixisenatide brand name: Adlyxin.
Glucosamine has a minor interaction with Lixisenatide. Despite initial concerns, it is unlikely that glucosamine will interfere with the effects of antidiabetes drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Lixisenatide
Lixisenatide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Glucosamine interacts with.
In vitro and animal research has suggested that glucosamine might increase insulin resistance or decrease insulin production. This has raised concerns that taking glucosamine might worsen diabetes and decrease the effectiveness of diabetes drugs. However, clinical research suggests that glucosamine does not have adverse effects on blood glucose or glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) in healthy, obese, or type 2 diabetes patients.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Good news here: if you're using lixisenatide (Adlyxin) for your type 2 diabetes and you'd like to try glucosamine for sore joints, the two are very unlikely to clash. Years ago, some lab and animal studies hinted that glucosamine might nudge blood sugar upward or make the body more insulin resistant, which raised a fair question about whether it could blunt your diabetes medicine. But actual studies in people, including folks with type 2 diabetes, have not shown a meaningful effect on blood sugar or A1C.
So glucosamine should not weaken how well lixisenatide controls your numbers. Since everyone is a little different and you're managing diabetes, it's still smart to keep an eye on your blood sugar when starting anything new and to give your pharmacist or doctor a quick heads-up. Don't change your lixisenatide on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lixisenatide page
“Lixisenatide (Adlyxin) is injected to lower blood sugar in type 2 diabetes, and nearly everything on this page acts on blood sugar too, which is why I would treat the list with genuine care rather than a shrug. Most of the entries, from bitter melon and fenugreek to both types of ginseng, can push glucose lower still and raise the odds…”

About Glucosamine
What is Glucosamine?
- Osteoarthritis
- Joint pain and stiffness
- Cartilage support
- Knee and hip joint health
Glucosamine is a natural compound found in cartilage and joint fluid, and it is one of the most popular supplements for osteoarthritis, especially of the knee. The evidence is mixed, with some people getting modest relief while others get little to no benefit. It is generally well tolerated, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting it, especially if you have a shellfish allergy or diabetes.
About Lixisenatide Injection
What Is Lixisenatide Injection Used For?
Brand name: Adlyxin
-
Lixisenatide injection is used along with diet and exercise to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Lixisenatide injection is not used to treat type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Lixisenatide is not used instead of insulin to treat people with diabetes who need insulin. Lixisenatide injection is in a class of medications called incretin mimetics. It works by stimulating the pancreas to secrete insulin when blood sugar levels are high. Insulin helps move sugar from the blood into other body tissues where it is used for energy. Lixisenatide injection also slows the emptying of the stomach and causes a decrease in appetite.
-
Over time, people who have diabetes and high blood sugar can develop serious or life-threatening complications, including heart disease, stroke, kidney problems, nerve damage, and eye problems. Using medication(s), making lifestyle changes (e.g., diet, exercise, quitting smoking), and regularly checking your blood sugar may help to manage your diabetes and improve your health. This therapy may also decrease your chances of having a heart attack, stroke, or other diabetes-related complications such as kidney failure, nerve damage (numb, cold legs or feet; decreased sexual ability in men and women), eye problems, including changes or loss of vision, or gum disease. Your doctor and other healthcare providers will talk to you about the best way to manage your diabetes.
-
Your doctor or pharmacist will give you the manufacturer's patient information sheet (Medication Guide) when you begin treatment with lixisenatide injection and each time you refill your prescription. Read the information carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions. You can also visit the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website (http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/ucm085729.htm) to obtain the Medication Guide.

Lixisenatide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Lixisenatide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Glucosamine — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
