Glucosamine + Semaglutide
Semaglutide brand names: Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy.
Glucosamine has a minor interaction with Semaglutide. Despite initial concerns, it is unlikely that glucosamine will interfere with the effects of antidiabetes drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Semaglutide
Semaglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Glucosamine interacts with.
In vitro and animal research has suggested that glucosamine might increase insulin resistance or decrease insulin production. This has raised concerns that taking glucosamine might worsen diabetes and decrease the effectiveness of diabetes drugs. However, clinical research suggests that glucosamine does not have adverse effects on blood glucose or glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) in healthy, obese, or type 2 diabetes patients.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Good news here: if you take glucosamine for your joints alongside semaglutide (Ozempic, Rybelsus, or Wegovy), you almost certainly have nothing to worry about. Years ago, lab and animal studies hinted that glucosamine might raise insulin resistance or lower insulin output, which sparked concern it could nudge blood sugar up and blunt diabetes medicines. But the human studies didn't bear that out.
In real people, including those with type 2 diabetes, glucosamine hasn't shown a meaningful effect on blood sugar or A1C. So it shouldn't interfere with how well semaglutide controls your glucose. I'd still mention it to your pharmacist or doctor, especially since you're managing diabetes, and keep an eye on your home glucose readings as you always would.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Semaglutide page
“Semaglutide (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy) lowers blood sugar, and so do most of the 256 supplements on this page, which is why I read this list with real vigilance rather than a shrug. Nearly all of the entries either add to its glucose-lowering effect and raise the risk of hypoglycemia, or push sugar the other way and blunt it, as niaci…”

About Glucosamine
What is Glucosamine?
- Osteoarthritis
- Joint pain and stiffness
- Cartilage support
- Knee and hip joint health
Glucosamine is a natural compound found in cartilage and joint fluid, and it is one of the most popular supplements for osteoarthritis, especially of the knee. The evidence is mixed, with some people getting modest relief while others get little to no benefit. It is generally well tolerated, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting it, especially if you have a shellfish allergy or diabetes.
About Semaglutide
What Is Semaglutide Used For?
Brand names: Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy
Semaglutide is available as Wegovy (injection and tablet) and Ozempic (injection), and each product has its own approved uses. Wegovy injection is approved — alongside diet and exercise — to reduce excess body weight in adults and in children aged 12 and older with obesity, to lower the risk of serious heart events (heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death) in adults with obesity or overweight who also have established heart disease, and for treatment of a liver condition called MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, formerly called NASH) with moderate-to-advanced scarring in adults. Wegovy tablets share the cardiovascular risk reduction and weight management uses in adults, but are not approved for MASH or for use in children. Ozempic injection is approved to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise) and to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes who also have established heart disease.
All forms are used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Ozempic is not approved for type 1 diabetes. The MASH approval for Wegovy injection is an accelerated approval, meaning continued approval may depend on results from a confirmatory study.

Semaglutide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Semaglutide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Glucosamine — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
