Here's the thing to keep in mind with Ortho-Prefest (estradiol and norgestimate). This is a hormone pill you swallow, and guar gum is a gel-forming fiber that can slow or slightly reduce how well some oral medicines get absorbed from your gut. The concern is that less of your hormone pill makes it into your bloodstream.

For a hormone product like this, weaker absorption could mean spotting, breakthrough bleeding, or hormones working less reliably. The evidence here is fairly modest and was mostly seen with drugs like metformin and penicillin, not specifically with hormones. A simple fix usually helps a lot: take your Ortho-Prefest first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum. Run the timing past your pharmacist or doctor to be safe.

Here's the gist with Ortho-Prefest (estradiol and norgestimate): guar gum is that gel-forming fiber that swells up in your gut. In theory, that thick gel could grab onto some of the hormone before your body absorbs it, meaning a little less of the estrogen part actually gets into your bloodstream. If absorption dropped enough, the medication might work less well for whatever you're taking it for, such as menopause symptoms or hormone balance.

Now, the honest part: this comes from animal studies only, and it hasn't actually been seen in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. To be safe, just space the two apart by a couple of hours and take guar gum with plenty of water. Run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
