Here's the gist with Jentadueto (which combines metformin and linagliptin). Guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and when it sits in your gut it can grab onto medicine and slow down how much gets absorbed. Studies have actually shown this with metformin specifically, so your diabetes pill could end up working a little less well. In real life that might look like higher blood sugar readings than you'd expect, since the medicine isn't fully getting in.

The easy fix most experts suggest is timing: take your Jentadueto first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum. Food amounts of fiber usually aren't a concern, but concentrated supplements are. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Here's the thing with Jentadueto, which is a combo of metformin and linagliptin. Guar gum forms a thick gel in your gut, and that gel can grab onto the metformin part and slow down how much of it actually gets absorbed. A small study in healthy people showed exactly this. The worry isn't a dangerous reaction, it's that you may get less blood-sugar lowering than you'd expect, so your numbers could creep up.

This isn't a prodrug situation, so no activation is involved. A simple fix is timing: many folks space their fiber a couple of hours away from this medication. Before you start a guar gum supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can help you watch your readings.
