Here's the wrinkle with these two: guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and miglitol works right at the surface of your gut to slow how quickly sugars get absorbed after a meal. Both of them act in the same place, your intestines. Taking them together could change how miglitol is absorbed and possibly blunt its blood-sugar-lowering effect, the way guar gum has been shown to slow absorption of drugs like metformin and penicillin.

The good news is this is fairly easy to manage. A simple way to sidestep the problem is to separate them, taking your guar gum a bit after your miglitol dose rather than at the same time. Both of these can cause gas and bloating on their own, so together that may feel worse. Run the timing past your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
