Here's the gist with Penicillin V and guar gum. Guar gum is a fiber that swells into a thick gel in your gut. That gel can trap part of your antibiotic and slow or lower how much of it actually gets absorbed into your blood. Since penicillin works directly as-is (it isn't a prodrug that needs activating), less absorption simply means a weaker dose reaching the infection.

Why that matters: an antibiotic only works if enough of it gets in. If too little is absorbed, your strep throat or skin infection may not clear up the way it should. A simple fix is timing. Take your Penicillin V first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum. To be safe, run your schedule by your pharmacist or doctor.
