Here's the simple version: guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and when you swallow it close to your prazosin dose, that gel can trap some of the medicine in your gut and keep it from fully soaking into your bloodstream. Prazosin isn't a prodrug, so less getting absorbed simply means a weaker effect, which for a blood pressure pill could mean your numbers don't come down as well as they should.

This is a possible, moderate concern based on limited research, not a sure thing. The easy fix is timing: take your prazosin first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum, and drink plenty of water with the fiber. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Prazosin hydrochloride capsules are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, including strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medications, such as diuretics (water pills) or beta-blockers.
