Here's the thing to keep in mind if you take rosuvastatin (Crestor) with a guar gum supplement: that thick fiber gel can grab onto the medication in your gut and slow or block how much of it gets absorbed. Since rosuvastatin needs to be absorbed to work, taking the two too close together could mean you get a little less benefit, meaning your LDL (bad cholesterol) may not drop as much as expected.

This isn't a dangerous reaction, just a timing issue. The simple fix is spacing them out. A good habit is to take your rosuvastatin first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum. Food amounts in cooking are unlikely to matter; it's the concentrated supplement doses that count. When in doubt, ask your pharmacist to help you set up a schedule.

Guar gum is a soluble, gel-forming fiber from the guar bean that may modestly help with cholesterol, blood sugar, and bowel regularity. It is generally safe in food amounts, but concentrated supplements can cause gas, bloating, and a risk of throat or gut blockage if not taken with enough water. What Is Rosuvastatin Used For?

Brand names: Crestor, Ezallor

Rosuvastatin tablets are used alongside diet changes to lower LDL-C ("bad" cholesterol), total cholesterol, and triglycerides (blood fats), and to raise HDL-C ("good" cholesterol) in adults with high cholesterol or mixed cholesterol problems. They are also used in adults with very high triglycerides, a condition called primary dysbetalipoproteinemia (Type III, a genetic fat-metabolism disorder), and to slow the buildup of plaque in arteries (atherosclerosis).

In people without established heart disease but with multiple risk factors, rosuvastatin tablets can reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and procedures to open blocked arteries. For children and teens aged 8 and older with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH, an inherited high-cholesterol condition), the tablet form is used to lower LDL-C after diet alone has not worked. Crestor tablets are also approved to treat homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH, a more severe inherited form) in adults and in children aged 7 and older.
