Here's the simple version: guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and when you swallow it close to your solifenacin (Vesicare), that gel can grab onto the pill and slow or lower how much of it your body absorbs. Solifenacin is already active when you take it (it is not a prodrug), so less absorption usually means a weaker effect. In real terms, your overactive bladder symptoms (urgency, frequent trips to the bathroom, leaks) might not be as well controlled.

The fix is easy and about timing, not stopping anything. A common suggestion is to take your solifenacin first and wait 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum, with plenty of water. Run this past your pharmacist or doctor to be sure it fits your routine.

What Is Solifenacin Used For?

Brand name: Vesicare

Solifenacin tablets (including the brands solifenacin succinate and VESIcare) are approved for adults with overactive bladder — specifically the symptoms of sudden urges to urinate, leaking urine due to those urges (urge urinary incontinence), and needing to urinate very frequently.

VESIcare LS oral suspension is approved for a different use: treating neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) — a bladder control problem caused by nerve damage or a nervous system condition — in children aged 2 years and older. This liquid formulation is dosed by the child's weight.
