Tiagabine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Guggul interacts with.

Theoretically, guggul might reduce the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that guggul constituents known as guggulsterones can induce CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for your seizure medicine. Tiagabine (Gabitril) is cleared from your body by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest the active compounds in guggul, called guggulsterones, may speed that enzyme up. If guggul revs up CYP3A4, your body could clear tiagabine a little faster, which might leave less of it in your bloodstream and weaken how well it controls your seizures.

I want to be honest about how shaky this is. This concern comes only from test-tube and animal research, not from people taking both together. Still, with a seizure drug, even small drops in blood level matter, so I wouldn't add guggul without checking first. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

What Is Tiagabine Used For?

Brand name: Gabitril

Tiagabine hydrochloride tablets are approved as add-on (adjunctive) therapy for partial seizures in adults and adolescents aged 12 and older. It is not used alone — it is always added to an existing seizure medication regimen.

Both the film-coated and standard tablet forms of tiagabine hydrochloride carry this same indication. The safety and effectiveness of tiagabine have not been established for any other condition.
