ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Sacubitril, Valsartan
Sacubitril, Valsartan falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Gum Arabic interacts with.
Gum arabic has been used as a suspending osmotic agent in drug formulations. It might improve bioavailability of water-insoluble drugs like naproxen, but reduce absorption of polar drugs like amoxicillin. To avoid changes in absorption, take gum arabic 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: gum arabic is mostly soluble fiber, and fiber sitting in your stomach and gut at the same time as a pill can sometimes grab onto it and slow or reduce how much gets absorbed. With Entresto (sacubitril/valsartan), the worry would be getting a little less of your dose into your bloodstream, which in theory could make it work a bit less well for your heart failure.
I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's largely theoretical and based on weaker evidence, so it may not be a big deal in real life. The easy fix is timing: take your Entresto first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your gum arabic. Don't change your heart medication on your own, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding the supplement.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Sacubitril, Valsartan page
“Entresto (sacubitril and valsartan) is a heart failure medicine, and heart failure patients tend to be heavy supplement users, reaching for fish oil, potassium, and herbal blood-pressure remedies. That instinct carries real risk here.”

About Gum Arabic
What is Gum Arabic?
- Digestive and gut health
- Source of soluble fiber
- Constipation or bowel regularity
- Prebiotic support
- Cholesterol support
- Blood sugar support
Gum arabic is a soluble dietary fiber from the acacia tree that is widely used as a safe food additive and is sometimes taken as a supplement for digestive health and as a prebiotic. Early studies suggest possible benefits for gut bacteria, cholesterol, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited, and high doses can cause gas and bloating. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it as a supplement.
About Valsartan and Sacubitril
What Is Valsartan and Sacubitril Used For?
Brand name: Entresto
Sacubitril and valsartan is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure in adult patients with chronic heart failure. The benefit is most clearly seen in patients whose heart pumps with a lower-than-normal ejection fraction (the percentage of blood the heart pushes out with each beat).
It is also approved to treat symptomatic heart failure with reduced left ventricular function in children aged 1 year and older. In pediatric patients, it lowers a blood marker of heart stress (NT-proBNP) and is expected to improve heart outcomes.
