No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Hazelnut and Enalapril Maleate in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Hazelnut and Enalapril Maleate

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Enalapril Maleate and Hazelnut in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Hazelnut at all — not against Enalapril Maleate, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What Hazelnut Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Enalapril Maleate. It is the side-effect record for Hazelnut on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Hazelnut, this list is the first place to look. One entry is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • A severe allergic reaction / An allergic reaction Worth acting on Additional detail

    “Orally, hazelnut is well tolerated.

    Serious Adverse Effects (Rare):

All routes of administration: Allergic reactions, including oral allergy syndrome and anaphylaxis.”

Hazelnut · Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, reported in allergic rhinitis (hay fever).

“Orally, hazelnut can cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, with severity ranging from oral allergy syndrome to anaphylaxis. The prevalence of hazelnut sensitization varies by geographic location, with hazelnut allergy reported more often in areas with greater birch tree pollen exposure. Hazelnut allergy is more common in adults than children, but children are more likely to develop severe reactions.”

“Orally, hazelnut can cause atopic dermatitis in patients with a hazelnut allergy. In one case, hazelnut essence in hydroxyzine syrup was determined to be the likely cause of atopic dermatitis in a toddler.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Hazelnut — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Enalapril Maleate’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Enalapril Maleate column appears here.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Enalapril Maleate page

“Potassium is the supplement I worry about first with enalapril maleate (Vasotec, Epaned). This ACE inhibitor, used for high blood pressure and heart failure, already makes the body hold onto potassium, so adding more can raise blood levels too far, a problem called hyperkalemia.”

About Hazelnut

What is Hazelnut?

  • Heart and cholesterol health
  • Source of healthy fats and protein
  • Antioxidant support
  • Blood sugar support
  • General nutrition and snacking

Hazelnuts are a nutritious tree nut rich in healthy fats, fiber, vitamin E, and antioxidants, and eating them as part of a balanced diet may support heart health. They are mainly a food rather than a treatment, and the biggest safety concern is that they are a common cause of serious nut allergy.

Corylus avellana · Betulaceae · Nut (kernel), nut oil, and sometimes leaves · Whole nuts, hazelnut oil, hazelnut flour/meal, nut butter, and skin or leaf extracts in some supplements

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Hazelnut is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Hazelnut record says about it on its own.

Hazelnut: dosing

There is no official medical dose for hazelnuts. As a food, a small handful (about an ounce) is a common serving size in studies of nuts and heart health. For any hazelnut supplement, oil, or extract, there is no standardized dose.

About Enalapril

What Is Enalapril Used For?

Brand names: Vasotec, Epaned

Enalapril is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children older than one month, and to treat symptomatic heart failure. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

It is also used for asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction — when the heart's pumping ability is reduced but the person doesn't yet have obvious heart failure symptoms — to slow the progression to overt heart failure and reduce hospitalizations. Enalapril maleate oral solution (including Epaned) and enalapril maleate tablets (including Vasotec) share these three approved uses.
