Here's the gist with Hu Zhang and cyclobenzaprine. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to break cyclobenzaprine down and clear it out. Hu Zhang contains resveratrol, which in lab (test tube) studies appears to slow that same enzyme. If that happened in real life, cyclobenzaprine could hang around a bit longer and build up, which may mean more of its usual side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, and feeling foggy.

The important part: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab work, and it hasn't actually been reported in people. Cyclobenzaprine is an active drug, not a prodrug, so more of it means a stronger effect, not a weaker one. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since both can make you sleepy, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, a clinical study in adults with NAFLD found that adding resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks did not necessitate dose adjustments to any established medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear cyclobenzaprine. Hu Zhang contains resveratrol, which in lab studies might slow that same enzyme down a little. If that happened in real life, cyclobenzaprine could hang around longer and build up, which means more of its usual effects, like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, and grogginess.

The good news is that this is theoretical, based mostly on test-tube data. In one human study, even high-dose resveratrol didn't force changes to medications cleared by CYP3A4. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since cyclobenzaprine already makes many folks sleepy, just be mindful of feeling extra drowsy and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Cyclobenzaprine Used For?

Brand names: Cyclobenzaprine, Flexeril, Cycloprine

Cyclobenzaprine tablets and extended-release capsules are used alongside rest and physical therapy to relieve muscle spasm caused by acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions — easing pain, tenderness, and limited movement. This use is intended for short-term treatment only (up to 2–3 weeks).

Tonmya, the sublingual (under-the-tongue) form of cyclobenzaprine, is separately indicated for the treatment of fibromyalgia in adults. It is not the same as the oral tablet or capsule formulations.
