Why this applies to Mifepristone

Mifepristone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hu Zhang interacts with.

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, a clinical study in adults with NAFLD found that adding resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks did not necessitate dose adjustments to any established medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's the basic idea with Hu Zhang and your Korlym (mifepristone). This herb is rich in resveratrol, and in test-tube studies resveratrol can put the brakes on an enzyme in your liver called CYP3A4. That same enzyme helps clear mifepristone from your body. If it slows down, mifepristone could build up a bit higher than expected, which may mean more side effects like fatigue, nausea, low potassium, or dizziness.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based mostly on lab work. One human study using a big resveratrol dose didn't force any dose changes. Still, since mifepristone already carries plenty of cautions, I'd run any Hu Zhang use past your doctor or pharmacist first rather than combining them on your own.

What Is Mifepristone (Korlym) Used For?

Brand names: Mifeprex, Korlym

Korlym is prescribed for adults with endogenous Cushing's syndrome — a condition where the body produces too much cortisol — who also have type 2 diabetes or trouble controlling blood sugar. It works to bring those blood sugar levels under control.

It is only for blood sugar problems that are directly caused by Cushing's syndrome. It should not be used to treat ordinary type 2 diabetes unrelated to this condition.
