ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Eptifibatide
Eptifibatide falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Japanese Persimmon interacts with.
Some anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, indomethacin (Indocin), ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the situation with eptifibatide (Integrilin). It's a strong IV antiplatelet medicine given in the hospital, usually during procedures like a heart stent or for certain heart attacks, to keep platelets from clumping and forming clots. Because it already lowers your body's ability to clot, anything else that nudges in the same direction is worth a second look.
Lab studies suggest some compounds in Japanese persimmon leaf extracts may have a mild blood-thinning effect by interfering with clotting proteins. In theory, stacking that on top of eptifibatide could add to bleeding risk, meaning more bruising or harder-to-stop bleeding. But this is only theoretical and based on test-tube research, not people, and eptifibatide is given under close hospital monitoring. Eating the fruit as food is not the concern; concentrated leaf supplements are. Always tell your care team what you're taking.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Eptifibatide page
“Eptifibatide (Integrilin) is a powerful antiplatelet drug given by IV during heart attacks and stent procedures, which means bleeding is already its main risk before any supplement enters the picture. That is why this list deserves real respect rather than a quick skim.”
