Here's the gist with karaya gum and your blood pressure combo (lisinopril plus hydrochlorothiazide). Karaya is a bulk-forming fiber that swells into a gel in your gut. When a thick gel is sitting in there, it can physically trap a pill and slow or reduce how much of it gets absorbed. The concern is mostly about timing, not a chemical reaction, so a little separation usually solves it.

If absorption dips, your medicine might not lower your blood pressure as well, so you could see readings creep up. This is a theoretical, minor concern based on how fiber behaves, not strong human data. A simple fix is to take your pill first and wait 30 to 60 minutes before the karaya gum. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and keep monitoring your blood pressure.

Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets — sold under the brand name Zestoretic and as the generic combination — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, including strokes and heart attacks.
