Here's the thing to keep in mind with kefir and Gamifant (emapalumab). This medicine is a monoclonal antibody that calms down an overactive immune system, which means your body is less able to fight off germs than usual. Kefir is a fermented drink that contains live, actively growing bacteria and yeast. The concern is that introducing those live microbes while your immune defenses are lowered could, in theory, raise your risk of an infection.

I want to be honest that this worry is theoretical and based mostly on lab-type reasoning, not strong human studies. Still, because HLH and this treatment leave the immune system fragile, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before adding kefir or other live-culture probiotics. Don't change anything on your own.

What Is Emapalumab-lzsg Injection Used For?

Brand name: Gamifant

Gamifant is used to treat primary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) — a rare, life-threatening condition where the immune system becomes dangerously overactivated — in adults and children whose disease has not responded to, has come back during, or has progressed on standard HLH therapy, or who cannot tolerate it.

Gamifant is also used for HLH/macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) in adults and children with known or suspected Still's disease, including systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (sJIA), when glucocorticoids (steroid medicines) have not worked well enough, cannot be tolerated, or when MAS keeps coming back.
