Here's the simple version. Besremi (ropeginterferon alfa-2b) is an interferon that can be hard on the liver. In fact, your care team likely checks your liver enzymes (like ALT and AST) regularly while you're on it, since liver injury is a known concern with this medication. Kudzu has also raised some questions about possibly stressing the liver, mostly based on lab reasoning rather than strong human studies.

So the worry here is additive liver strain if you take both together. This is theoretical, not proven, but with a drug already watched for liver effects, it's not worth the gamble. Watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual fatigue, and please check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding kudzu.

What Is Ropeginterferon alfa-2b Used For?

Brand name: Besremi

BESREMi (ropeginterferon alfa-2b) is used to treat two conditions in adults: polycythemia vera, a bone marrow disorder where the body makes too many red blood cells, and essential thrombocythemia, a condition where the bone marrow makes too many platelets.

Both conditions are given as subcutaneous (under-the-skin) injections of BESREMi, including the BESREMi Pen delivery option.
