Pretomanid falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Lactobacillus Gasseri interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus gasseri with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. gasseri.
Lactobacillus gasseri preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. gasseri preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the thing to know about pairing Lactobacillus gasseri with Pretomanid: the interaction runs in only one direction. Pretomanid is a TB-fighting medication, and it doesn't care whether you take a probiotic. But probiotics like L. gasseri are made of live bacteria, and any antibiotic-type drug taken at the same time can kill off some of those friendly organisms before they do their job. So the probiotic may simply work less well.

This is a theoretical concern based on how these products behave, not something proven in studies. Your Pretomanid will still treat your TB normally. A simple fix is to space them out by at least two hours. Since TB therapy is serious and carefully managed, check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any supplement.

About Pretomanid

What Is Pretomanid Used For?

Brand name: Pretomanid

Pretomanid Tablet is used only as part of a three-drug combination regimen with bedaquiline and linezolid. It is approved for adults with pulmonary (lung) tuberculosis (TB) that has become resistant to multiple standard TB drugs — specifically those resistant to isoniazid, rifamycins, a fluoroquinolone, and a second-line injectable antibiotic.

It is also approved for adults with TB resistant to both isoniazid and rifampin who cannot tolerate standard therapy or whose TB has not responded to it. This approval is based on limited clinical data, and pretomanid is intended for a specific, narrow patient population only.
