Lemon + Efavirenz
Efavirenz brand name: Sustiva.
We found no known interaction between Lemon and Efavirenz in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Lemon and Efavirenz
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Efavirenz and Lemon in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Efavirenz
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Efavirenz is filed under 8 classifications — including non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (nnrtis), cytochrome p450 2c19 (cyp2c19) inhibitors, cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) inhibitors. Lemon has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being itraconazole (sporanox) (minor) — and none of Efavirenz’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Lemon Does Interact With Other Medications

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Efavirenz page
“Efavirenz (Sustiva) is an HIV medicine, so an interaction that weakens it can cost more than a bad day; it can invite viral resistance. That makes this a list to treat with genuine care.”

About Lemon
What is Lemon?
- Vitamin C source
- Digestive support
- Flavoring and aromatherapy
- Skin and hair care
- Sore throat and cold relief
- Kidney stone prevention (dietary)
Lemon is a common citrus fruit that is a good source of vitamin C and citric acid, and it is widely used in food, drinks, and home remedies. While it can support hydration and a healthy diet, most claimed medicinal benefits are not strongly proven. As a food, lemon is very safe for most people, but concentrated essential oils and extracts call for more caution.
Citrus limon · Rutaceae · Fruit (juice, pulp, and peel), essential oil · Fresh fruit, juice, peel/zest, essential oil, tea, capsules, extracts
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Lemon is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Lemon record says about it on its own.
Lemon: dosing
There is no official standardized medicinal dose for lemon. Most people simply use it as a food or flavoring, such as adding lemon juice to water, tea, or meals. For supplements, extracts, or essential oils, there is no well-established dose, so follow the product label and do not exceed the suggested amount. Essential oils are very concentrated and should be diluted properly and never swallowed without professional guidance.

Efavirenz Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Efavirenz as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Lemon — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
