Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear the dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant) in your Tylenol Cough product. In lab dishes and animal studies, lemongrass and its lemony compound citral seem to slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let dextromethorphan linger a bit longer, nudging up its effects — think drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling a little foggy.

I want to be honest, though: this is only test-tube and animal evidence, and the sprinkle of lemongrass in food or a cup of tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are where I'd be more cautious. If you use those regularly, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up.

Theoretically, lemongrass might increase the clearance and decrease the levels of glucuronidated drugs.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral induce uridine diphosphoglucuronosyl transferase (UGT), the major phase 2 enzyme that is responsible for glucuronidation.

Here's the gist with this combo. Your body partly clears acetaminophen (the Tylenol part) through a process called glucuronidation. In lab and animal studies, lemongrass and its lemony compound citral seem to speed up that very pathway. In theory, that could clear acetaminophen a little faster and lower its levels, which might mean slightly weaker pain or fever relief. The dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant) is handled mainly by different enzymes, so it's less of a concern here.

I want to be straight with you: this is theoretical and based only on lab and animal data, not solid human studies. Cooking amounts and lemongrass tea are very unlikely to matter. If you use concentrated lemongrass supplements or the essential oil regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.
