Theoretically, lemongrass might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the basic idea: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down brexpiprazole (Rexulti). Lab and animal research hints that lemongrass — mainly its compound citral — may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, brexpiprazole could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which might mean stronger effects and more side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, restlessness, weight gain, or feeling more sluggish than usual.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is theoretical and comes only from test-tube and animal studies, not from real patients. The lemongrass you cook with or sip as an occasional tea is very unlikely to cause a problem. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are where I'd be more cautious. If you're considering those, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Brexpiprazole

What Is Brexpiprazole Used For?

Brand name: Rexulti

Brexpiprazole tablets are approved for two uses in adults: as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment alongside antidepressants for major depressive disorder (MDD), and as a treatment for schizophrenia. These uses apply to both the generic brexpiprazole tablets and Rexulti.

Rexulti has one additional approved use: treating agitation associated with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease in adults. Rexulti is also approved for schizophrenia in adolescents ages 13 and older. Note that Rexulti is not approved for dementia-related psychosis without agitation from Alzheimer's disease, and it is not meant to be used on an as-needed basis for Alzheimer's-related agitation.
