Cabotegravir Sodium falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Lemongrass interacts with.

Theoretically, lemongrass might increase the clearance and decrease the levels of glucuronidated drugs.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral induce uridine diphosphoglucuronosyl transferase (UGT), the major phase 2 enzyme that is responsible for glucuronidation.

Here's the gist for cabotegravir (Vocabria): your body clears it mainly through a process called glucuronidation, handled by enzymes called UGT. Lab and animal studies hint that lemongrass (and its compound citral) might speed those enzymes up. In theory, that could move cabotegravir out of your body a little faster and lower its levels in your blood.

Why that matters: cabotegravir is an HIV medicine, and keeping steady levels is important for it to work and to prevent the virus from becoming resistant. Lower levels could mean it's less effective. That said, this is theoretical and based only on lab and animal data, not human studies. A bit of lemongrass tea or seasoning in food is unlikely to be a problem. Before using concentrated lemongrass supplements or the essential oil, check with your pharmacist or HIV provider first.

About Cabotegravir

What Is Cabotegravir Used For?

Brand name: Vocabria

Vocabria (cabotegravir) tablets are used in combination with rilpivirine (Edurant) to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents aged 12 and older who weigh at least 35 kg and whose HIV is already virologically suppressed (virus levels undetectable or very low on their current regimen). Vocabria tablets serve as a short-term oral lead-in — taken for roughly one month — before switching to long-acting injectable therapy.

Cabotegravir tablets are also used as an oral lead-in for HIV-1 pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) — helping HIV-negative adults and adolescents (weighing at least 35 kg) confirm they tolerate the drug before starting injectable PrEP. Both uses require confirmed HIV-negative status before starting.
