Deferasirox falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Lemongrass interacts with.

Theoretically, lemongrass might increase the clearance and decrease the levels of glucuronidated drugs.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral induce uridine diphosphoglucuronosyl transferase (UGT), the major phase 2 enzyme that is responsible for glucuronidation.

Here's the gist for Deferasirox (Exjade, Jadenu). Your body partly clears this iron-removing medicine by attaching it to a sugar molecule, a process called glucuronidation. Lemongrass and its main compound, citral, may speed up that very process. In theory, that could push Deferasirox out of your system faster and lower its blood levels, which might mean it doesn't pull out excess iron as well as it should.

I want to be honest: this is based only on lab and animal studies, not real human data, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. A cup of lemongrass tea or cooking with it is unlikely to matter much. Concentrated supplements or the essential oil are a bigger question mark. Since keeping your iron under control is important, just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any lemongrass supplement.

About Deferasirox

What Is Deferasirox Used For?

Brand names: Exjade, Jadenu

Deferasirox — available as tablets (including Exjade and Jadenu) and oral powder granules (including Jadenu) — is used to treat chronic iron overload in patients 2 years and older whose bodies have accumulated too much iron from repeated blood transfusions.

It is also used to treat chronic iron overload in patients 10 years and older who have non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia (NTDT) syndromes — a group of inherited blood disorders — when liver iron levels and blood ferritin levels meet specific thresholds. The safety and effectiveness of deferasirox when combined with other iron-chelation therapies have not been established.
