Eravacycline falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lemongrass interacts with.

Theoretically, lemongrass might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the basic idea: lemongrass, mainly through a compound called citral, may slow down a liver enzyme known as CYP3A4. Eravacycline (Xerava) is partly cleared by that same enzyme, and it is an active antibiotic, not a prodrug. So in theory, if lemongrass blocked that enzyme, a bit more eravacycline could linger in your body, which might nudge up side effects like nausea or infusion-site reactions.

The reassuring part: this concern comes only from lab and animal studies, not from people, so it's pretty theoretical. Also, eravacycline is given in the hospital as an IV by your care team, so they're watching closely. Still, it's worth mentioning any lemongrass supplements or oils to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Eravacycline Injection Used For?

Brand name: Xerava

Xerava (eravacycline) is approved to treat complicated intra-abdominal infections (serious infections inside the belly — such as those involving the intestines, appendix, or other abdominal organs) in adults 18 and older. It works against a specific range of bacteria that commonly cause these infections.

Xerava is not approved to treat complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI). To help prevent antibiotic resistance, it should only be used when there is a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection that it can fight.
