These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Lime interacts with whole categories of medication. Flutamide falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Lime in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Flutamide
Flutamide falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Lime interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for flutamide: this prostate cancer medicine can already make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you may sunburn faster than usual. Certain lime products, especially the essential oil applied to the skin, contain compounds that can do the same thing. Stacking the two together could, in theory, raise your odds of a stronger sunburn or skin reaction when you're out in the sun.
I want to be honest that this concern comes from lab-type evidence, not real patient reports, so it's more of a careful heads-up than a red alert. Squeezing lime in your food or drink is very unlikely to be a problem. If you use concentrated lime oil on your skin, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor, and lean on sunscreen and shade either way.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Flutamide also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for flutamide: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help process this medicine. Lab and animal studies suggest that certain plant compounds in lime juice can slow down that enzyme a bit. If flutamide is cleared more slowly, slightly more could build up in your body, which in theory might raise the chance of side effects like nausea, diarrhea, hot flashes, or changes in liver function.
I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes from rat studies using a different drug and high doses of lime juice, not from people taking flutamide. A normal squeeze of lime on your food almost certainly won't matter. If you're thinking about concentrated lime products, just run it by your pharmacist or oncologist first.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Flutamide page
“A man taking flutamide (Eulexin) to block testosterone during prostate cancer treatment cannot afford big swings in the drug's level, and most of the 189 supplements on this page are capable of causing exactly that. The bulk of them work through the liver enzyme CYP3A4, which breaks flutamide down.”

About Lime
What is Lime?
- Source of vitamin C
- Digestive upset
- Skin care
- Mood and aromatherapy
- Flavoring and food preservation
Lime is a common citrus fruit and a good natural source of vitamin C and plant antioxidants. As a food it is generally safe and enjoyed by most people, but evidence that lime treats any specific health condition is limited. Use the essential oil with care, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated lime products for health reasons.
About Flutamide
What Is Flutamide Used For?
Brand names: Eulexin, Euflex
Flutamide treats prostate cancer in men. Eulexin capsules are used with an LHRH-agonist (a type of hormone-lowering therapy) for locally confined Stage B2-C and Stage D2 metastatic (spread) prostate cancer.
For Stage B2-C disease, Eulexin and the goserelin acetate implant start eight weeks before radiation therapy and continue during it. For Stage D2 disease, Eulexin starts with the LHRH-agonist and continues until the cancer progresses.
