These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Lime interacts with whole categories of medication. Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine, Chlorpheniramine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Lime in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine, Chlorpheniramine
Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine, Chlorpheniramine falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Lime interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest scoop on this one. The concern with lime isn't about how your body processes Zutripro (the hydrocodone, pseudoephedrine, and chlorpheniramine combo). Instead, it's about your skin. Lime oil contains compounds that can make skin more sensitive to sunlight, and some medicines may add to that effect. So the theory is that combining concentrated lime oil with a light-sensitizing drug could raise your chance of sunburn-like reactions or blotchy skin after sun exposure.
That said, this is a weak, theoretical link based only on lab and animal data, not real patient reports. Squeezing lime in your food or drink is very unlikely to matter. The bigger caution is rubbing lime essential oil on your skin before going out in the sun. If you use concentrated lime products, just mention it to your pharmacist.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine, Chlorpheniramine also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Zutripro, which combines hydrocodone, pseudoephedrine, and chlorpheniramine. The hydrocodone part relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break it down. Some animal studies suggest compounds in lime juice can slow that enzyme a little. In theory, that could let hydrocodone linger longer, nudging up its effects like extra drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, or slowed breathing.
I want to be honest about the evidence: this is based only on rat research using high doses of lime juice, so it's pretty weak and theoretical. A normal squeeze of lime in your food or drink almost certainly won't cause trouble. Still, since hydrocodone is an opioid, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist if you're using concentrated lime products.
