These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Beer interacts with whole categories of medication. Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine, Chlorpheniramine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Beer in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Major).
CNS DEPRESSANTS
1 of 2Why this applies to Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine, Chlorpheniramine
Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine, Chlorpheniramine falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Beer interacts with.
Concomitant use of alcohol with CNS depressants can increase sedative and other adverse effects, potentially through inhibition of the metabolism of certain CNS depressants.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Mixing beer with Zutripro is a real concern, mostly because of two ingredients in it. Hydrocodone is an opioid pain reliever and chlorpheniramine is a sedating antihistamine. Both slow down the brain, and alcohol piles right on top of that. Together they can leave you very drowsy, dizzy, and foggy, and in larger amounts they can dangerously slow your breathing.
The pseudoephedrine piece is a stimulant, so it does not balance out the sleepiness in a safe way. Beer can also worsen the racing heart or jitteriness some people feel from it. The safest move is to skip alcohol entirely while taking this combination. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor if you have questions about timing or safer options.

NARCOTIC DRUGS
2 of 2Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine, Chlorpheniramine also falls under NARCOTIC DRUGS.
Concomitant consumption of large amounts of alcohol can decrease the metabolism of narcotic drugs.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This medicine combines three ingredients, but the one that matters most with beer is the hydrocodone, an opioid painkiller and cough suppressant. Drinking large amounts of alcohol can slow how your body breaks hydrocodone down, letting more of it build up in your system. On top of that, beer and hydrocodone both calm the brain, so the effects stack.
What this can look like in real life: extra drowsiness, dizziness, foggy thinking, and in serious cases dangerously slow or shallow breathing. The chlorpheniramine (an antihistamine) adds even more sleepiness. This is a well-recognized concern, so please don't pair beer with this medicine, and ask your pharmacist or doctor before you do.

About Beer
What is Beer?
- Social and recreational drinking
- Relaxation
- Heart health (popular belief)
- Bone health (popular belief)
- Source of antioxidants and B vitamins
Beer is an alcoholic beverage that contains some minerals, B vitamins, and plant compounds from hops and grain, but it is not a health supplement. Any possible benefits come only from light-to-moderate intake, and they are easily outweighed by the well-known harms of alcohol. The safest amount of alcohol for health is none, and beer should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
